1hr gas leaf blower = 1100 mi of Driving
I heard from the news that gas leaf blowers and lawn mowers are shockingly bad for the planet.
The California Air Resources Board says that operating a commercial lawn mower for one hour emits as much smog-forming pollution as driving a new passenger car about 300 miles. That's about the distance from Los Angeles to Las Vegas! Also using a commercial gas leaf blower for just one hour can produce the same amount of emissions as driving from Denver to Los Angeles, which is 1100 miles of driving!
Can you believe it? It's pretty shocking that a leaf blower can cause so much pollution. Because of this, places like Burlington, Vancouver, and British Columbia have already banned gas-powered lawn mowers and leaf blowers.
Even California is planning to ban the sale of gas-powered lawn mowers and leaf blowers beginning in 2024. And in Washington D.C., they are even stricter! They not only banned these machines, but if anyone uses one, they can get fined $500. If someone hears or sees someone using one, they can report it, and that person will get in trouble.
So it's important to know that these machines can cause a lot of pollution. Fortunately there are alternatives we can recommend! Manual reel mowers are great and work well to cut the green grass! Electric lawn mowers are also great. They are a bit pricier than the gas-powered ones but in the long run, since they don’t require gas, are cheaper and also quieter. If you like gadgets, I recommend robotic lawn mowers. They run on electricity and use rechargeable batteries.
Let’s do our part to take care of our planet!
