we must ban glitter and here is why

Forecast: Microplastic Rain

WE DO NOT NEED GLITTER. It’s obvious.

All adults should know that glitter contains microplastics and are harmful.

I was watching a science show with my sister on TV and I love science. But the show made me so angry and I couldn't believe that was happening.

The science show host gathered kids to a kiddie pool and dampened a slime activator to create a slime pool. But I couldn't believe what I saw at the moment! They dampened buckets full of glitter in the slime! That is microplastic! What kind of science teacher would do that?

Come to think of it, I realized a lot of art classes uses glitter glue, glitter stickers, glitter paper and glitter powder to decorate whatever we are making.

In 2019, scientists found that microplastics can come down in rain or blow in the air and are now finding microplastics everywhere - even remote areas the Pyrenees mountains in France and Glaslyn Lake which is in Wales’ Snowdonia National Park.

Scientists at the US Department of the Interior and the US Geological Survey found plastic showed up in 90% of the samples which collected in the Colorado Front Range.

Now is the best time to use this proverb I just learned, “what goes around comes around.”

No one wants to sprinkle microplastics across our Earth. And when it comes to microplastics glitter may not be the biggest source in the world - but it is for sure harming the environment.

Companies are irresponsible to sell these types of products and consumers have been fooled by marketing. Countries are blinded by the power of money and reluctant to enact laws to limit plastics. Kids should be responsible and say “NO” to glitter, and NO to any other plastics.

I see so many ads of glitter face paint, glitter makeup, glitter nail polish - but glitter is not cool in our generation.

And of course we MUST stop using glitter glue, glitter paper, glitter slime, and anything glitter not just at home, but school wide!

IT IS TERRIBLE TO US, NATURE AND OUR FUTURE.
