banning glitter at school

After I learned how much environmental impact microplastics have, my sister and I wanted to take action immediately

So we decided to try and ban glitter at school. I know that banning glitter in our entire school cannot protect the environment much. But if we can make this possible, we think a lot of kids, their friends and parents will start to become more interested in environmental issues. Maybe we could show how we can start making actions with something easy.

We decided to make a comic book about how we can help protect the earth by banning glitter and reducing plastics in school as much as possible. We made comic books in a way all the grades can enjoy. Also we wrote an essay to teachers to explain why we made it and more details about environmental impact. And I wrote a letter to our principal who is very kind and always open to talk to us. But to be honest, I was not sure if she would take this seriously because I would imagine how much work she has to do as a principal each day…

Amazingly, she came to me a couple days later and approved our idea and she even helped hand out our comic books to each classroom! When my teacher brought the paper to our classroom, I felt like I was about to go on a rollercoaster. My teacher took time for me to give a chance to talk to the class about the idea. It was my big opportunity!

A couple days later, students from other grades talked about our project at the school morning assembly to remind people not to use glitter anymore. It was just the starting point but our voice reached the entire school. I was filled with glee! (Not with glitter!)

I really appreciate the teachers who listen to us and take time for our project despite the fact of the pandemic.

Someday, I want to be the leader of a global environmental agency and I can help solve all the environmental problems we have by teaming up with people.

We are young but we were able to ban the glitter school wide! And without everybody’s help, this couldn’t happen.

Every little bit helps and I am really thankful for the help.
You can do this as well! Let’s take action!
